Head of Risk Management

Role purpose

To develop and implement the framework and governance of Risk Management within Colt by improving current processes, developing a risk management programme, providing technical expertise across the risk spectrum and responding dynamically to changes in the business with information and challenges on risk.

This role will be responsible for transforming risk management into a responsive service that meets the needs of the business and drives a proactive risk management culture across Colt, and business partners through involvement in the decision making process.

 

Key accountabilities

  • Work with the Leadership Team to develop a risk strategy and articulate a risk appetite
  • Plan, design and implement risk management processes across Colt
  • Lead the embedding of a proactive, business partnering risk management team and the broader risk management culture across the business
  • Conduct regular risk identification, assessment and evaluation with management across the business
  • Provide support, education and training to the business to build risk awareness
  • Oversee the risk management and reporting process
  • Regular reporting of risks to the Executive Leadership Team and supporting Board reporting
  • Actively work with management to institute appropriate responses to identified risks, providing advice, guidance and expertise.
  • Lead ad-hoc risk related projects in response to business needs
  • Provide the leadership for the Risk team (four people)

 

Key performance indicators (financial and non-financial)

  • Risk workshops held with all EVPs, VPs and key senior managers
  • Risk register compiled and top 10 risks are approved by the Board.
  • Risk reporting mechanism is developed.
  • Risk awareness training is rolled out to the organisation.

 

Relationships and key contacts

  • Exposure to the EVPs, VPs  and Senior Managers across Colt in all territories.
  • Industry regulators (e.g. ISO)
  • External third party suppliers (e.g. due diligence reviews, risk assessment)

 

Role specific requirements

Skills & Experience

  • Background – Experienced senior manager or Head level risk professional who has worked in fast moving environments with immature/developing risk/control frameworks.  Track record of driving risk management strategies and being solution focused. Ability to operate in a flat organisational structure with direct exposure to Executives. Experience in technology services and telecommunications is preferable, but not essential.

 

  • Risk Management Experience – Significant experience and thorough knowledge of risk management framework methodology and practices, including developing risk appetite, implementing risk management programmes, embedding risk management frameworks and Board level assurance requirements; gained in global corporate organisations or consultancy practices.

 

  • Commercial Focus – Demonstrates a proven track record of identifying, assessing and evaluating risks, advising business stakeholders through providing insight and innovative commercial solutions, from a risk perspective, while understanding the commercial view.  Experience of ad-hoc participation in business committees and working groups, is advantageous.

 

  • Communication and Influencing Skills – Proven track record in developing strong stakeholder relationships, excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Able to manage complex internal and external relationships demonstrating gravitas, influence and a supportive style. Skilled relationship developer with the ability to effectively challenge and influence ELT and senior management on risk matters and build partnerships with other assurance functions and the business to embed risk management across Colt.

 

  • Leadership – Strong leader with significant experience in people management; supporting peer and leading high performance teams to meet pre-agreed deadlines. Work effectively with the team members and the business

 

Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in risk management (CRMA)
  • Whilst not essential, a qualification in accounting (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) would be useful.
  • Strong Excel or system skills in automating risk reporting.

Others

  • Travel opportunities to Europe, India and Asia.  The majority of key stakeholders are based in London which will reduce the need to travel, but the candidate should be willing to travel to review other locations, processes or business developments  
  • Be aware of Colt information security, business continuity, quality and other ISO or equivalent policies/ industry standards and discharge duties against them as appropriate.
  • Identify risks related to process and information security and treat/ mitigate the same as appropriate
