The Role and Accountabilities

You’ll be part of a dynamic, agile and commercially focused Finance team of six supporting the significant growth of the business. The Finance team works closely with the business and Senior Management Team (SMT) to deliver business reporting, forecasts and budgets, strategic overviews of the existing estate alongside support on major expansions and resource planning.

  • Prepare commercially focused, quarterly profitability reports by site and customer to the DCS management team assisting in and making recommendations on future actions to ensure value generation and strategic direction
  • Prepare schedules for Board reporting, including Investment Appraisals on new and existing freehold sites. Prepare key financial metrics per site, provide insights and commentary on returns and movements between reports
  • Review major components of fixed costs (utilities) and revenue on a monthly basis analysing trends, variances and exception reporting. Assist in month end accounting close for the Division alongside off-shore accounting team, prepare inputs for monthly reporting packs for SMT distribution
  • Support the forecasting and budgeting of utilities costs for the DCS and Colt businesses; work alongside Procurement and external advisors in supporting the strategic procurement and management of utilities. Prepare regular updates and reports to steering committees to explain hedge positions and current exposures
  • Project manage the introduction of a new business intelligence platform for the business to assist in reporting and analysis; lead on project scoping, reporting formats including interactive management dashboards and relationship management with IT teams
  • Provide operational finance support to the DCS Management Team and key business stakeholders
  • Prepare and issue quarterly site and customer profitability packs to the management team including full and incisive commentary explaining variations to budget and prior year. Lead on report improvements and re-design to meet the needs of the business
  • Take ownership for quarterly Board reporting on investment appraisals, preparing return calculations and key metrics. Provide insightful commentary on movements and impact on the overall estate
  • Prepare a full power forecast each quarter, working closely with budget holders, identifying potential risks and opportunities within the forecast. Support the power procurement process for the Group alongside external consultants and internal procurement teams. Report on progress to steering committees regularly
  • Assume ownership over the introduction of a new business intelligence platform, gather business requirements, develop interactive dashboards, manage relationship with internal IT teams and report progress regularly to SMT
  • Provision of general financial support to business teams and liaison with other divisional finance teams. Proactively identify and lead data quality and accounting fixes as and when they occur



What you will need to succeed


  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or equivalent with post qualification experience in a fast paced environment
  • An accountant with post qualification experience in a fast-turnaround environment. Role requires candidate to be flexible and adaptable to short notice changes in deadlines and priorities alongside balancing long and short term deadlines for varying stakeholders
  • Eagerness to take ownership of medium and long term complex projects
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior management and other non-financial staff and show resilience in obtaining quality reliable data and associated explanations
  • Medium to advanced excel expertise


  • Data centre experience an advantage but not required
  • Experience of working in a large matrix organisation an advantage
  • Previous experience of working with SAP and other OLAP tools
  • Experience with off shore accounting support teams
  • Previous experience of power procurement helpful, but not essential
