Job Title: DCS Procurement Category Manager Built Environment

Location: London, Colt House


Role Purpose:

DCS Procurement are responsible globally for all DCS 3rd Party Suppliers from a Commercial, Contractual and Relationship Management point of view.

Reporting to the DCS Procurement Director, the primary focus of the role is to provide exceptional Category Management to a number of key categories within the built environment of DCS Data Centres. This will include leading on procurement of infrastructure maintenance and replacement capital funded projects, support for Operations and Delivery teams as well as ad-hoc procurement support for the new build developments comprising Construction and Major Build projects.

Responsibilities are end to end and cover sourcing, RFx processes, commercial and contractual negotiation through to introducing and operating within Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) frameworks.

The role includes both Tactical and Strategic Management and development of Procurement categories, driving category plans, annual cost plans, cost reduction opportunities and alternative Supplier strategies.

Colt DCS are also rapidly expanding their Data Centre facilities across the Globe, and contractual construction experience as well as exposure to leading procurement of large scale capex infrastructure projects will be key credentials in the continued success of this role within Procurement. The successful candidate will play a leading role in new build Data Centre projects and in the maintenance projects for the existing estate.

Working in a small Procurement Team based in London the successful candidate will be great team player, able to work with demanding Key Stakeholders as well as being instrumental in leading large virtual teams across a challenging, demanding and growing business.


 Key Accountabilities:

  • Creates annual and quarterly category plans in support of functional responsibilities
  • Defines operating and capital cost reduction targets and quantifies opportunities with DCS Procurement Director
  • Commercial negotiation with suppliers to ensure best operating cost and benefit outcomes achieved for DCS
  • Tracks and report cost reductions by defined DCS Procurement savings on a monthly basis, obtaining sign off from Key Stakeholders and Procurement Director
  • Provide expert Procurement advice and support to specified categories within responsible areas
  • Complete strategic Procurement reviews and management of capital investment requirements and Major Build opportunities 
  • Negotiation of commercial construction contracts with General Construction Contractors and Design Consultants
  • Lead the procurement of infrastructure assets (including mechanical and electrical assets) in support of ongoing estate lifecycle and maintenance operations
  • Runs and manages all RFx activity in DCS on SAP/Ariba
  • Leads Procurement / Business reviews of Suppliers bid / Tender proposals
  • Manage and promote the Procurement Governance and best practice policies and guidelines for effective management of operating and capital expenditure.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert on broad procurement issues


What you will need to succeed:


  • Proven experience in a similar Procurement role 
  • Proven track record in Procurement Strategic Category Management, able to effectively build and execute robust category plans
  • Practical knowledge and experience of creating and negotiating commercial construction contracts
  • Experience of creating and negotiating contracts for large capital assets as well as leading negotiations for life-cycle repairs and replacement, installation and commissioning.
  • Manage Procurement categories and build projects workload through creating practical plans and provide effective management and cost reduction proposals.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a team environment 
  • Experience of working under pressure and delivering against tight deadlines
  • Demonstrate excellent negotiation and communication skills, internally and externally with suppliers
  • Demonstrate delivery of cost and capital expenditure savings to meet targets
  • Experience of leading, working and delivering Procurement strategies through virtual multifunctional teams
  • A strong Procurement Manager who combines outstanding executional skills with a strategic insight
  • Fluent in English with excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Culturally aware and astute working in a diverse environment
  • Flexibility to travel at short notice

Nice to have

  • CIPS or Degree level (Business School) with Procurement and / or Finance experience
  • Knowledge of the Data Centre sector, or related industries e.g. Telco, IT, Professional Services etc.
  • Language skills are a big plus (conversational French or German and reading skills)
  • Use of e-Sourcing tools  - preferably SAP / Ariba experience
